Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it, and above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light.

Joseph Pulitzer

The theory of the free press is not that the truth will be presented completely or perfectly in any one instance, but that the truth will emerge from free discussion.

Walter Lippman  (American Editor and Writer, 1889-1974)

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.
C. S. Lewis

There are thousands of causes for stress, and one antidote to stress is self-expression. That's what happens to me every day. My thoughts get off my chest, down my sleeves and onto my pad.

Garson Kanin (American Writer, Actor and Film Director, 1912-1999)

Our spontaneous action is always the best. You cannot, with your best deliberation and heed, come so close to any question as your spontaneous glance shall bring you.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Not too much sums up the Newsvine experience better than these combined beautifully articulated quotations. After friendship, learning from and teaching one another is the greatest value. Spontaneity is a huge added plus for me as well. We can learn about ourselves and others when we dare to reread some of the long forgotten comments  - the wisdom and the comedy amazes me. We're good!

I have been on the Vine for just over a year, and it has been amazing how much I have learnt - and also had my perceptions changed, I might add. Always something interesting around, and have had some good laughs too. Some of you guys are soooo funny. As a Britisher, I take an interest in US affairs, as I know many on the Vine do in European and British issues. We are so globally linked, and much impacts on our politics and lives both sides of the Pond. It has been good to connect with you, Ambivalent.

What a joyful article, Ambivalant- speaks truly of the happiness I feel when a good moment passes here, between friends! That may also be in differing in ideas-opinions.

Great collection of wisdom and sentiments ambivalent. I'm very grateful to all the Viners I have met (to you include) -- so much wisdom, talent, compassion, passion and empathy. We all have the capacity to be teachers AND students! My dad always told me growing up that life is school, we are never out of school.

Your Dad was a wise man, always learning. May that be for all of us. Happy Birthday Jackie, and many more to come.

ambivalent... This was a perfect exposition of our Newsvine experience, well, mine anyway. While I find relevance in all, Emerson hits closest to home. Spontaneity has it's drawbacks, but what it holds in 'truth' seems worth the consequences.. good or bad. Thank you!

When one shares with another , a bond is formed and this is the basis of a friendship as you are to me. Terrific article, words of wisdom and heart felt. LOL
