Happy Fat Tuesday from around the world!
Great slide photos of colorful celebrations...
Think of Mardi Gras and vivid images come to mind: beads and masks, women and men in elaborate costumes (such as this one, in Venice) or nothing more than a few strips of fabric, outrageous floats and joyful mayhem in the streets. Mardi Gras marks the season before Lent, when austere self-denial is the rule, and folks party down in a burst of normally out-of-bounds behavior that can last anywhere from a few days to a few months. It’s celebrated all over the world — in different forms, under different names and at different times — but everywhere in the same spirit of sanctioned abandon.
